Millions of Muslims Gather in Mina for Final Rites of Hajj
Headline.co.id, Mina – Millions of Muslims from around the world have converged in Mina, Saudi Arabia, for the symbolic stoning of the devil, the last rite of the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
The ritual, known as “Ramy al-Jamarat,” involves throwing pebbles at pillars representing the devil in Mina, a valley near the holy city of Mecca. It marks the final days of the Hajj, which is a key pillar of Islam that every able-bodied Muslim is obligated to perform at least once in their lifetime.
The pilgrims performed the stoning rite on Monday, June 16, 2024, following a series of rituals and prayers. The ritual is believed to purify pilgrims from sins and grant them forgiveness.
“It’s a powerful and emotional experience,” said Fatima Ali, a pilgrim from Malaysia. “It’s a chance for us to come together as one and seek God’s mercy.”
The stoning rite is part of a series of rituals that began on Saturday with the pilgrimage to Mount Arafat, where Prophet Muhammad delivered his farewell sermon. Pilgrims also performed the Tawaf al-Ifadah, a circumambulation of the Kaaba, the holy cube-shaped structure in the center of the Grand Mosque in Mecca.
The Hajj is a time of reflection, sacrifice, and unity for Muslims worldwide. The pilgrimage is intended to strengthen their faith, promote interfaith dialogue, and foster a sense of community among Muslims.
After the stoning rite, pilgrims will return to Mecca for the Eid al-Adha celebrations, which begin on Tuesday, June 17, 2024. The festival marks the end of the Hajj and is celebrated with feasts, prayers, and family gatherings.
